CASE STUDY: Helping a Self-Employed Ex-Pat purchase a buy-to-let property in the UK
We wanted to share an ex-pat case that we recently came across where we were able to help a broker support an applicant who was a self-employed ex-pat and had owned their own business in Australia since 2006. The business trades as a discretionary trust in which they were the primary beneficiary and trustee of the trust. The applicant was looking to purchase a buy-to-let property in the UK.
Income was easily evidenced by the last three years accounts for the business along with an accountant’s reference. Although the documents had not been produced by a UK accountant, the lender was able to proceed as the accountant used in Australia was part of the Institute of Public Accountants who are one of three legally recognised professional bodies for accountants in Australia.
This case is an example of finding and packaging a suitable solution for a self-employed ex-pat in Australia.
